Safe access and egress to and from any vessel is very important and we often read in the media about badly rigged pilot ladders and occasionally very sadly of serious incidents. Barges tend to be another challenge as they are not manned by a regular crew, with a different riding squad at each port, often not having worked together before so unfamiliar with the barge. Another issue is sometimes the project deck fittings may impact on siting of the access ladders.
